Yawanawá Bamboo Kuripe — Vibrant thread, sacred tradition

Crafted with care and intention, each thread-wrapped kuripe is a functional work of art. Handmade by Yawanawá women using locally harvested bamboo, every piece carries the energy of the forest and the dedication of the maker. Colorful threads are tightly wound for grip and ceremony, blending beauty with practical ritual use.

These kuripes are not mass-produced or identical — they’re personal and soulful, made in the rhythm of the forest. Designed for reliable self-application, each piece supports grounding and focus in your rapé (hapé) ritual.

What is a Kuripe?

A Kuripe is a traditional ceremonial tool used by indigenous tribes of the Amazon rainforest, specifically for administering sacred plant medicines like rapeh snuff. It is a small, hollow pipe made of bamboo, wood, or bone, and is used to blow the rapeh into the nostrils. The use of Kuripes dates back hundreds of years, with different tribes having their own unique designs and styles.

Kuripes are often intricately decorated with carvings or painted designs and may feature feathers, crystals, or other natural materials. Some Kuripes are designed to be worn as jewelry, making them functional and beautiful accessories for ceremonies and rituals.

The use of rapeh in shamanic practice is believed to help facilitate a deeper connection to the spiritual realm and to promote healing on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. Kuripes are used for the self-administration of rapeh, while the Tepi is used to deliver rapeh to others

What is Rapé (Hapé)?

Rapeh snuff, also known as rapé or hapeh, is a time-honored sacrament cherished by the tribes of the Amazon for centuries. This handcrafted preparation comprises dried, ground medicinal plants and tree ashes. Traditionally, Rapeh is administered via a unique bone or bamboo pipe, blown directly into the nostrils.

Rapeh's diverse formulations cater to a variety of uses and broadly fall into three categories: spiritual, healing, and fortifying. It is revered for its potent purifying and grounding properties, often employed to dispel negative energy, enhance concentration, and heighten consciousness. It serves as a pivotal component in sacred rituals and ceremonies, facilitating a deeper connection with the spiritual realm, fostering self-awareness, and promoting healing and growth.*
